Dorcus Nyambi, a 37-year-old former Standard Bank employee, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for stealing R940,000 from a deceased client’s account.
Nyambi, who worked as an administrator in Tonga, Mpumalanga, was found guilty of the crime.
Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, spokesperson for the Hawks in Mpumalanga, explained that Nyambi reactivated a dormant bank account belonging to the deceased while the family was handling the estate claim.
She then colluded with others to create beneficiaries linked to the reactivated account and transferred various amounts into these accounts, causing Standard Bank a loss of R940,000.
Nyambi was found guilty of violating the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA) 121 of 1998 and two counts under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.
