Lindiwe Masuku’s husband, Jabu Masuku, was tragically shot dead on 28 July while patrolling the streets.

Despite the sorrow, Lindiwe decided to celebrate his life rather than mourn at his memorial service at Harry Gwala Secondary School on 1 August.

Lindiwe took to the stage as a DJ to honor Jabu, who was also a DJ. She played love songs and jazz music that her husband loved to play in clubs.

Trained by Jabu himself, Lindiwe wants to continue deejaying in his memory. The memorial service, resembling a jazz session, was a tribute to Jabu, a member of the Daveyton Gentlemen’s Jazz Club.

Lindiwe, despite her heartbreak, smiled while deejaying. “My husband loved R&B music, and I saw it fitting to share the songs he loved,” she said. She remembered Jabu as a good man who loved his family and had a great sense of humor.

“I never expected he would leave us so soon,” she added.

Jabu’s father, Johannes, expressed his shock over his son’s death and urged the police to bring those responsible to justice.

Jabu, a member of the MK party and a security officer at Induku Armed Response, was patrolling Ramza Street in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, when thugs shot him through the window of his patrol car, killing him instantly.

Sipho Mashele and Sfiso Mtshweni from Open City security responded to the gunshots and rushed to help Jabu, but they were also disarmed and shot dead.

Zeph Ndlovu from Open City security expressed grief over the loss of their colleagues and demanded justice. Mashele and Mtshweni were also members of the MK party.

General Monk Mlangeni, MK party Ekurhuleni regional coordinator, stated that these killings have robbed the party of dedicated members.

He mentioned that Jabu was shot seven times through the window, and the motive was believed to be robbery. The suspects fled on foot, but it was too dark for witnesses to identify them.

Ekurhuleni district police spokeswoman, Captain Nelda Sekgobela, confirmed that murder cases have been opened and the police are investigating.

Jabu’s boss from Induku Security Company, Mpho Moepye, described Jabu as a dedicated worker and prayed for justice.

Jabu Masuku was laid to rest on Saturday, 3 August.
