The launch of SABC2’s Muvhango in Fourways, Johannesburg, last Thursday was filled with unexpected drama.

After introducing new characters, including Leleti Khumalo, and a fresh storyline, the event took a surprising turn.

Afro-soul singer Csana was performing her hit song “Ndobeleni” for the media and guests when she went into a trance on stage.

Onlookers were left in dismay as Csana, whose real name is Nonguquko Mlaza, collapsed during her performance.

She claimed to have been “attacked by spirits,” falling to her knees and then lying on her back, leaving the audience shocked. Csana later told ZiMoja that she had anticipated this happening. “The last time I went into a trance, I was recording the same song, but there was no audience. My management team panicked and thought I needed medical attention,” she explained.

Her band members were also caught off guard as Csana began shaking on stage. One of the event organizers rushed to get water for her, but it turned out she didn’t need it.

When asked about her spiritual journey, Csana said she wasn’t comfortable discussing it at the moment.

“I have always been told I have a special calling, which is something I have struggled to accept because I believe that music is my calling. The gift I have is from higher powers, but I have learned to accept that there are certain things beyond my control,” she said.

Over a year ago, Csana faced criticism from festival goers at a June 16 event, accusing her of imitating Zahara. “I love and respect Zahara. I don’t even think I sound like her. The fact that I also play guitar doesn’t mean I am mimicking her style,” she clarified at the time.
