The Nigerian TV show “You View TVC” went viral on social media on Tuesday, 30 July, for supporting Chidimma Adetshina in the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant.
The hosts emphasized the importance of backing Adetshina due to South Africa’s history of xenophobia.
In the video shared by @newslivesa on X, the hosts said, “We’re rooting for Chidimma and hoping she wins. It’s important to highlight this because of the history of xenophobia in South Africa. Supporting her is crucial. We wish her the best and hope she wins Miss SA so we can celebrate her here as well.”
They expressed their hope that Adetshina would represent South Africa in Miss Universe, playfully noting that they would refer to her as “Chidimma, not Bonang.”
Adetshina, a law student and beauty queen, has faced backlash on social media due to her Nigerian roots.
Some South Africans have criticized the TV show and Adetshina’s participation in the pageant, with comments expressing frustration over a non-South African competing for the Miss South Africa title.
So we must allow this nonsense to happen under our watch 😭😭😭pic.twitter.com/xkHKtERydl
