Ex-Idols South Africa judge Unathi Nkayi is making waves after her revealing interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG, which has been buzzing on social media.
Unathi Nkayi has built a stellar career over the years, becoming one of South Africa’s most beloved stars.
While she’s known for her incredible talent, she’s also had her share of drama that keeps her in the headlines, thanks to her massive social media following.
The spotlight is on Unathi again as she opens up about her strained relationship with Somizi and the real reasons behind her departure from Idols SA. She also delved into her controversial exit from Kaya FM in 2021.
Unathi and Somizi had a professional working relationship, even though they weren’t close friends.
However, things took a turn in 2021 when Somizi was removed from Idols SA following allegations of gender-based violence by his then-husband, Mohale Motaung.
Around that time, Unathi made headlines for her comments on R Kelly’s conviction, which somehow dragged Somizi into the conversation.
She recalled saying, “R Kelly was convicted, and I was happy about it. But people questioned me, saying, ‘What about your friend?’” Unathi’s response, stating that Somizi wasn’t her friend but rather a friend of Thomas, seemed to strain their working relationship further.
Interestingly, after Somizi’s brief exit and subsequent return, both Unathi and Randal were let go from Idols SA.
Unathi also discussed her ongoing legal battle with Kaya FM following her dramatic exit. She is suing the station for R1.6 million, claiming unfair dismissal.
The dispute stems from an incident where Unathi accused fellow radio host Sizwe Dhlomo of using profanities towards her in the studio.
However, after an internal investigation, the station found Unathi guilty and allegedly gave her an ultimatum to apologize to Dhlomo, which she refused. This refusal led to her immediate dismissal.
Despite all this, Unathi Nkayi remains determined to fight for her rights in court, standing firm on her side of the story.
