The search for missing 6-year-old Junior Mabandla ended in tragedy when his remains were discovered buried in someone else’s grave.
On Wednesday, 03 July, exactly one month after Junior disappeared in Pienaar, Mpumalanga, an 18-year-old man was arrested following an assault by community members.
The suspect reportedly confessed to burying Junior in the grave and led authorities to the site.
Police revealed the man is also linked to the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a 3-year-old girl from the same area, who was burned to death.

Junior Mabandla was last seen on 03 June after leaving home to buy sweets with friends.
His remains, found in a shopping bag along with his clothes, bring a heartbreaking conclusion to the month-long search.
The suspect is currently under police guard receiving medical treatment.

Authorities were called to the scene in Pienaar where the community had apprehended the man, who confessed to his involvement in the disappearances of Junior and the 3-year-old girl.
The motive for the children’s murders remains unknown. The suspect will be formally charged after his release from the hospital.
